FAQ
What is Remote Assistance Helper?
RAH is a tool designed for IT professionals who need to have
remote access to a number of machines. It presents them with a list of
active machines on the Domain or Workgroup. From that list the "Expert"
can choose a machine and connect.
How does it work?
It works in conjunction with 2 Windows XP Pro programs called Remote
Assistance and Remote Desktop. First is queries your network to find all
the machines listed on the network. It stores these in a file called
machines.dat. These machines are then loaded into a selectable listbox.
From that box the expert highlights the machine and chooses either Connect
Remote Desktop or Connect Remote Assistance.

This program is great. How can I thank you for it?
If you find the program useful then consider upgrading to
Remote Assistance Helper Plus. It
removes both the 25 machine limit and the Nag screen at startup.
I've got a huge number of machines showing up. Is there anyway
to narrow it down?
Sure... First use "Filter Results" This narrows down the machines
by matching the string entered to characters in the machine name.
Second, instead of querying your entire domain, create a custom machines.dat
file that contains only the machines you want in your list. The machines
in this custom file must all start with 2 backslashes(\\) Note: If
you press the query button, it will erase your custom file.
Remote Assistance is giving me an error, "Access to the requested
resource has been disabled by your Administrator"
Before a machine will accept an "unsolicited" offer for help that machine
must be configured. You can do this with a local or domain policy.
Microsoft has a good KB article on the subject. Don't ask me, I won't be able to
help. You can find the article here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301527/
Remote Assistance takes a long time for the machine name to
populate. Or isn't giving enough time before it tries to populate
the machine name.(version 2.4 and earlier only)
The amount of time Remote Assistance Helper waits before sending the machine
name to Remote Assistance is adjustable. The default is 3 seconds.
If you wish to change that edit the rah.ini file located in the same directory
as the RAHelper.exe. The syntax is DELAY=X where X is the amount of
seconds to wait for Remote Assistance to load before sending the machine name to
it.
Why should I donate to your Project Fund?
It gives me incentive to keep adding new features and continue the project.
Plus doesn't it feel good to give someone a "pat on the back" for a job well
done?
What is Remote Assistance Helper Plus?
Remote Assistance Helper Plus is designed for the
corporate environment. Therefore the 25 machine limit as well as the
startup "NAG" screen is removed.
